Up early and over to the Vatican Museum to beat the crowds to the Sistine Chapel. Definitely worth getting up and out early for! We then wandered through the amazing trove of treasure (it is, in fact, the biggest museum in the world) until we were Museary. (Museum weary) A quick trip down to the crypt of St. Peter’s revived us enough to propel us to lunch and gelato, after which we enjoyed a walk around Rome visiting various churches to view see the chapel that is the setting for the first act of Tosca, two Jesuit churches with amazing illusionist ceilings, Michelangelo’s Moses and a couple more Caravaggio paintings. Dinner out at one of our favorite restaurants in Rome and a nighttime visit to Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona rounded out a great day.
