We stopped for a couple of hours in the town of Ravenna, situated on the eastern coast (on the Adriatic Sea) of Italy. Ravenna is world-renowned for its Byzantine mosaics, and it did not disappoint. These mosaics adorn the ceilings and walls of the 5th century (A.D.) church. Aside from the sheer artistry of these very old mosaics, we were amazed by the incredible colors of marble they used. Note the sea-green, royal blue, and jet black. Also, these churches depict many old-testament scenes, such as the story of Abraham and Isaac (on the arch above Molly’s head).
