August 12 Picture of the Day

August 12 Skocjan Caves Slovenia

We left Bled, bound for Venice via the Skocjan Caves located in a National Park Slovenia and what a sight to behold.

The tour of the caves was offered hourly in four languages (Slovenian, German, Italian and English) and consisted of 2 hours of winding your way down and then back up through 2 areas of these underground caverns.  While looking at staggeringly large stalagmites and stalagmites we learned that it takes 100 years for the formations to grow 1 centimeter.  The river that formed this underground system enters the cave at the site we were at and exits over 150 kilometers away into the sea.
